Kim Hulbert is one of the most well known women
in the world of barbershop harmony.
As a winner of five International gold medals her
accomplishments most definitely speak for themselves.
Her first gold medal was as a member of the San Diego Chorus in
1976. That was followed the next year by her first quartet gold
medal with High Society. A second quartet gold would come in
1988 with SAVVY and an unprecedented third gold, the first woman
to win three, in 2001 with a cappella Gold. A cappella Gold went
on to win the 2006 national Oreo and Milk Jingle contest. It's
their voices that you will hear singing the Oreo jingle for the
year 2007.
For twenty years Kim has been the musical Director of the San
Diego Chorus. Under her dynamic and knowledgeable leadership,
the San Diego Chorus has won seven Regional Championship medals
as well as numerous International medals; most recently, the
International Gold medal in October 2002.
Since 2002 Kim has been the Musical Director of Pacific Coast
Harmony (PCH), a men's barbershop chorus based in La Jolla,
California. Her winning drive has propelled PCH to qualify to
sing in the competition at the International Convention of the
Barbershop Harmony Society the last two years, finishing 19th on
its 4th anniversary.
A voice teacher by profession with a Masters Degree in Vocal
Pedagogy from San Diego State, Kim is currently a Ph.D.
candidate in musicology at Claremont Graduate University,
Pomona. Kim is also a judge in the sound category for Sweet
Adelines International and is much in demand as a coach for
quartets and choruses worldwide.
